Student Accommodation

Student Accommodation

Austrian universities typically do not have their own student housing. Instead, students in Vienna have a variety of excellent housing providers located throughout the city. Wherever you choose to live, there are some factors that you might want to consider in making your choice.

FINDING THE RIGHT PLACE

Availability might be the first hurdle to navigate, so we recommend researching and contacting accommodation providers as early as possible so that you don’t miss out. When looking for a space to live, cost is going to play a major part; we try to provide information on a cross-section of providers with something for everyone at each price point.

Location is also another important factor to consider. Modul University Vienna is located in the 19th District of Vienna, which can be accessed via car or by the bus line 38A.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

A couple of important things to remember upon moving to Vienna and looking for the perfect place to call home during your studies.

  1. Meldezettel

This is “residence registration”. Everyone who lives in Vienna must have one and you must register or deregister within 3 days of moving in or out. The residence registration form must be signed by you and the person (or company) who owns and is renting the house or flat to you. If you change accommodation, you must remember to deregister and reregister.

  1. Map and districts

Vienna is made up of 23 districts. You can tell which district a location is in by looking at the 4-digit postcode or zip code. For example, MU’s postal code is 1190, the middle 2 digits denote the district!

First district 1010 - this is the center of Vienna, or the Innere Stadt. It is home to many of Vienna’s oldest attractions, like Stephansdom.

Modul University is in the 19th district, Döbling, renowned for vineyards and wine taverns, which you can see looking down from campus!

  1. Getting around the city

Like most modern cities, all the districts are really easily accessible via underground train (U-Bahn), trams or buses. Our campus is easily reached by public transportation. Take the green U4 subway line to the end station stop Heiligenstadt. From there take the bus line 38A approximately 20-25 minutes to the station Kahlenberg.  Take advantage of a discounted Wiener Linien semester ticket for students on all public transportation in Vienna.

Most popular questions answered by the MU Team

Couple-friendly options include Donau Homes and Effi Studios, which provide spacious accommodations. If you would like to receive more information and discount codes, please reach out to the housing department. We would recommend checking the private accommodations section on our website for more options.

For short stays, Rioca and The Social Hub are excellent options. Please email us to inquire about a promo code for discounts.

Some locations in Stuwo allow pets. It is recommended to check their website to review pet-friendly policies and specific conditions.

The closest options are Base 19, located in the same district as the university, and some locations of Wihast, which is also relatively nearby. Both offer convenient access for students and take at least 30 minutes to arrive to the campus. Third and fourth options would be The Fizz Brigittenau located in 20th district, and The Social Hub in the 2nd, respectively about 40 minutes and 45 minutes to our campus in Kahlenberg.

For a vibrant student life with modern amenities and common areas, consider The Social Hub or The Fizz. These locations are designed with students in mind and offer a lively atmosphere for living, studying, and socializing.

The most affordable dormitories are OEAD, Wihast and Base 19, with monthly rents starting between €300 and €400. Availability can be limited, so it is recommended to apply early.

The same options for short stays—Rioca and The Social Hub—are ideal for weekend visits. You can request a promo code via email for discounted rates.

Vienna has an excellent and reliable public transportation system. For faster access to the campus, consider accommodations near metro stations of U4 and the S-Bahn (S45). These lines connect efficiently to Heiligenstadt station, where you can take the 38A bus for your final ride to the university at Kahlenberg.
